Treatment for Dark Circles and More

I have a client who asked me to research what she could do to help with the dark circles under her eyes.

The eye cream she’s been using has helped a lot, and she uses a concealer for coverage. But she didn’t want to have to wear makeup all the time. So, I started my research.

First, know that dark circles are not caused by lack of sleep alone, though it can be a contributor. Dark circles are often times caused by some injury or trauma in the area or are hereditary. You may have noticed that dark circles are prevalent in some ethnicities. Stress, lack of hydration, smoking, and lack of a proper diet can also cause dark circles.

In my research, I found that the blood vessels under the eyes need to be constricted to increases blood flow and to aid the healing process. This blood flow, along with the right skin care products, can help fade dark spots faster!

Using ICE (yes, the stuff we use in our margaritas 😀) can help increase the blood flow. Think about it — we use ice therapy for injuries and to prevent soreness. It makes perfect sense to use ice anywhere we need to heal.

You can grab a cube of ice from the freezer and rub it under your eyes, but that can be very messy. Using a ice roller is so much better.

The rolling head of the roller usually contains water and gel that freezes or gets very cold when places in a refrigerator or freeze. The roller is easily to use because it easily glides along the face.

Ice rollers have been around for several years and are often used by professional aestheticians. But you can buy one yourself and perform your own home treatment.

I found professional grade ice rollers for upwards of $70! But why on earth would you pay that much?!?

Here is the Ice’d Roller by Pozz’d for just $35!

You may find them cheaper than $35, but they will likely have a plastic rolling head instead of one made of stainless steel, and the plastic may not glide as well.

There are many more benefits to using an ice roller in your skin care routine. An ice roller can help to:

  • Reduce pimples and inflammation
  • Soothe sunburns
  • Relieve puffy eyes
  • Reduce and delay the appearance of wrinkles — did somebody say “WRINKLES”?!?
  • Reduce oiliness of skin
  • Soothe skin and decrease inflammation after chemical peels, cosmetic procedures, laser, derma planing and derma rolling.

I hope your found this information helpful. Let me know what you think and any results you’ve have from using ice in your skin care routine!

PRODUCT REVIEW: The Original MakeUp Eraser

Oh my goodness….have you heard about the Original MakeUp Eraser, the 100% polyester cloth that removes your makeup with just warm water?

Just wet the cloth and remove your makeup. This includes waterproof eyeliner and mascara, HD makeup and much more.

It’s true.  I bought 3 MakeUp Erasers about a month ago and wanted to test it before writing a review and telling others.  Now, I can testify that it works as well as it claims.  In fact, I decided to be a reseller because I love it so much.

The best part is…it’s reusable. Throw it in the wash and no stains remain. The MakeUp Eraser will last up to 1,000 washes and eliminates the need to buy disposable product to remove your makeup.

And there’s the best part.  FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY, we’re having a BOGO sale.  Learn more on at this link.

Check it out and let me know what questions you have.

Part 2 – Charcoal Mask from Mary Kay

You may recall my post announcing the *NEW* Clear Proof® Deep-Cleansing Charcoal Mask  from Mary Kay!  Now I want to share my step-by-step routine using the mask.  I have very oily skin, and the warmer months makes it even worse.  So, I’ve been looking forward to the launch of this product since announced last summer.

First, I removed my makeup from the day.  I start with the award-winning Mary Kay Oil-free Eye Makeup Remover to gently remove my mascara and eye makeup.  Be careful around your eyes, because too much tugging and scrubbing can accelerate the formation of crows feet and sagging!  Next, I use the Original MakeUp Eraser to remove the rest of my makeup.  All you need is WATER, and the makeup is gone!!  With the makeup gone, I use a pea-sized amount of my normal anti-aging cleanser to make sure my skin is prepared to fully benefit from the mask.

Now, for the Charcoal Mask!

I smooth it on with my fingers, though some use a clean foundation brush. The aroma is amazing. The extracts of rosemary and peppermint deliver a fresh scent to awaken your senses.
I leave it on for 20 minutes, and you can now see the darker areas.  This is where my larger pores are, and where the product is working the most to absorb the oils.

Lastly, I simply rinse the mask off with warm water – no peeling!  I apply my Pore Minimizer, followed by my eye cream, lifting serum, and night cream from the TimeWise Repair® Volu-Firm® Set.

The next morning, my skin still looks and feels great.  I usually wake up with very oily skin.  But not this time.  And the best part, this mask is gentle enough to use every day.

Some more data from Mary Kay:

  • 79% of women and men confirmed that “skin looks clearer” after use.
  • Contains honeysuckle and navy bean extracts shown to target the appearance of skin discoloration and help soothe skin.
  • Suitable for all skin types.

I’m sold!  Let me know if you have any thoughts or want to try it.

Do you use a Face Brush?

I was in Sephora the other day and saw a sign that said — “96% of Women Experience Smoother, Healthier Looking Skin”.  The sign was in the Face Brush section.  I use a face brush and know the positive results.  With so many choices on the market,  I thought I’d share some information about them.

First, the basics — Many people think we cleanse our face to remove the dirt and makeup from the day and the oils accumulated overnight.  This is only partly true, because you also cleanse to prepare your skin for the next step in your skin care routine.  The cleaner your face, the better your skin will absorb the moisturizer, anti-aging cream, wrinkle filler, dark spot reducer, acne treatment, etc. that you apply after cleansing.  So, if you aren’t getting good results with your products, it may be because your skin isn’t absorbing the product at the level needed to make an impact.

Now, let’s look at a few brands…

Clarisonic® is the most popular brand.  They have several brushes on the market, range from $129 to $339 and usually come with one brush head.  Their brushes are rechargeable and replacement brush heads range from $27 t0 $35 each.  When purchased from the company, you have a 2 year warranty.

Note:  For best results, you should replace your brush head ever 3 months, just like your toothbrush.

Next, is Mary Kay’s Skinvigorate™ Cleansing Brush.  Priced at $50, the brush comes with 2 brushes and the 2 AA batteries needed to power the brush.  A pack of  2 replacement brush heads cost $15.   There is a Satisfaction Guarantee on all Mary Kay products when purchased from a Mary Kay representative.  Contact your representative for a full refund or replacement if you are not satisfied at any point.

Finally, the Lavo Brush had great reviews from other bloggers and is the cheapest product I’ve found.  On Amazon, it sells for less than $30 and come with 2 brushes.  Batteries are not included.  A set of 2 replacement brushes are $12.99 on Amazon.  The brush come with at 90 day warranty.

There are many other brands on the market, as a simple Google search will reveal.  Whichever brush you choose, I hope you choose!  As you contemplate, think about the following:

  1. Is waterproof a requirement?  If you don’t plan to use the brush in the tub or shower, being completely waterproof is a feature not worth paying for.
  2. What is the warranty?  If you aren’t satisfied or the product stops working, you want to be able to return it without much hassle.
  3. What are the cost of replacement brushes?  Just like a printer, the ink could cost more than a new printer after a few replacements.

Do you use a face brush?  If so, which one and how do you like it?
